Kidz Kabin Cooks!

At Kidz Kabin we like to make sure we’re doing a fun range of activities and that we appreciate the things we get to do. This extends to what we eat and understanding how our food is made.

Over the last few weeks we’ve been making delicious things. Have a look at some of the food we made below and see what we’ve learned!

Vegetable Soup

    • Butternut squash
    • Sweet potato
    • Carrot
    • Leek
    • Parsnips
    • Courgette

While we chopped and peeled vegetables we improved our dexterity and learned that there are some vegetables that you can eat every part of and some you have peel because you can only eat the inside. We put all the vegetables in a big pot on a portable hob and let the vegetable pieces sweat a bit before we added water. We measured the amount of water we needed in jugs before we poured it in. We added a vegetable stock cube to give it a bit more delicious flavour. Then we let it simmer for 2 hours (safely protected so no children tried to touch the hot pot of soup). Our lovely chef whizzed down the vegetables so there weren’t too many lumps and we ate the delicious soup for tea!

    • Dough base
    • Tomato sauce and fresh tomatoes
    • Cheese
    • Sweetcorn
    • Peppers

Each child rolled and stretched their own pizza dough base. We learned about how to make dough and let it prove so it gets light and fluffy for us to eat. We spread our tomato sauce and fresh tomatoes across the bases. We added cheese and then each child could choose their vegetables. We learned about the importance of including vegetables in our meals – they make them more delicious!

    • Use any basic scone recipe available on the internet
    • Blueberries
    • Chopped dried apricots
    • Chocolate pieces

We used a basic scone recipe available on the internet and each child could choose what fruit to add as well as the special treat chocolate pieces. We encourage the children to make their own choices about what to add to their scones. Other fruits like raspberries or strawberries would make good additions to the scones too!
